About Me |
|
After earning a degree in Psychology from Glassboro State College - now Rowan, I went on to obtain a graduate certification from Trenton State College - now the College of New Jersey.
My first job out of college was with the Camden County Division of Substance Abuse as a drug and alcohol counselor. One of my duties included counseling men on probation and parole for drug-related offenses.
From there I went to Resorts Casino in A.C. serving as the Employee Assistance Professional for 3 years. My primary responsibility was to assist the many troubled employees and their families in getting treatment for their addiction problems. I also had the opportunity to organize events for employees and their families as well as chairing the United Way campaign.
The next 6 years was spent working for an inpatient rehab and a psychiatric hospital doing corporate training and marketing to private companies and educational institutions on identifying employees with substance abuse problems.
My final 10 years of employment was at the Sterling High School District as a K-12 Certified Substance Awareness Coordinator (SAC). I counseled elementary students who had substance abuse issues in their family and provided counseling and intervention services to the middle and high school students (and their families) who were using alcohol and other drugs. There were a number of interventions that resulted in a student entering rehab. While those situations were sometimes extremely difficult, knowing I helped a family and their child overcome the lure of drugs was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
I have been married for 16 years and have two boys, one at Harrington Middle School and the other at Lenape High School. I am fortunate now to be able to spend most of my time with my family and volunteering for the betterment of Mount Laurel.
